A Wedding at Maxstoke Castle | Warwickshire Wedding Inspiration

Wedding couple Lauren and James at Maxstoke Castle in Warwickshire

Castle walls, colourful flowers, a little sunshine and two people who couldn't stop laughing. Welcome to our wedding editorial at the beautiful Maxstoke Castle in Warwickshire.

There are some places that make you stop for a moment and think, Oh, imagine getting married here.

Maxstoke Castle was absolutely one of those places for me.

With its beautiful historic architecture, gorgeous gardens, charming courtyard and endless opportunities for photographs, it was the perfect setting for a little wedding magic. And when the opportunity came along to bring a team of wonderful wedding suppliers together to create some inspiration for the venue's future weddings, I couldn't wait to get started.

The idea was simple: show couples what could be possible when you take a beautiful castle setting, add a little creativity, a lot of personality, and let the day unfold.

And honestly? I think we did just that.

A castle, a vision and a whole lot of wedding inspiration

Maxstoke Castle is a private residence, and the lovely people who welcomed us made it possible for us to use this incredible setting for the day.

The vision was to explore how weddings could take place here, with the castle providing the most beautiful backdrop for photographs, welcome drinks and those all-important first moments of celebration, before the party moves out into the surrounding fields.

Think an outdoor celebration, a beautiful marquee, your favourite people, good food, music and dancing under the evening sky.

And the photographs? Oh, the photographs.

The courtyard, the castle walls, the gardens and the surrounding grounds offer so many different little corners to explore. You could spend the day wandering around and still find another beautiful spot for a photograph.

For couples dreaming of a wedding that feels a little different from the traditional hotel ballroom, a setting like this opens up so many possibilities.

Colour, flowers and making it our own

For the styling, I wanted something romantic and elegant, but with colour and warmth.

We played with soft blues, pinks and pastel tones, bringing in warmer touches of burnt orange through the table details. The combination gave everything a lovely softness without feeling too sweet or overly traditional.

And the flowers? Well, this is where things got a little more personal.

I couldn't get a florist involved for this one, so naturally, I decided to have a go myself. Because apparently organising an entire styled wedding shoot wasn't quite enough to keep me busy. 😂

Some of the flowers came from Tesco (yes, the supermarket!), and I spent a morning at Lichfield Maize Maze with my little girl, Amelia, wandering through the wildflower fields and collecting armfuls of beautiful blooms.

I brought them home, arranged them into vases, and created a bouquet to take along on the day. I also took care of all the table styling myself, from dressing the table to sourcing candles from IKEA. It was a real labour of love, and seeing all those little details come together against the castle was such a lovely moment.

The stationery from Thoughtfully Wild Studio was absolutely gorgeous and fitted the elegant feel of the day perfectly. It added that extra little layer of detail to the tablescape without taking away from everything else.

Then there was The Ivory Edit, who supplied Lauren's wedding dress. And honestly... what a dress. It was covered in the most beautiful lace, fitted Lauren like an absolute glove and looked incredible against the castle backdrop. She looked so, so stunning in it.

Phoebe Valentine did the most amazing job of Lauren's hair and makeup too. She looked beautiful, but that braid was just next level. I genuinely think it is one of the most gorgeous wedding hair updos I've ever seen. It suited Lauren so perfectly and pulled the whole look together beautifully.

And then we have Judith Brown Jewellery, who supplied Lauren's jewellery. I am absolutely in love with these pieces. Judith handmakes her jewellery from wire, and the delicate little leaf details and tiny beads were just stunning. They were so intricate without being overpowering and worked beautifully with the lace of the dress.

I've actually worked with Judith before, and I would happily work with her again and again. Her work is just gorgeous, and those little details photograph beautifully too — which, obviously, I am very much here for. 😂

And finally, Shropshire Petal Fields supplied the confetti for us. Now... the wind did not exactly decide to cooperate with our plans for this part. 😂 We had grand ideas of a beautiful confetti throw floating perfectly through the air, but the wind had other plans.

Did we let it ruin the fun? Absolutely not.

We threw confetti at Lauren and James anyway, laughed our way through it and ended up with some really fun photographs. And honestly, I think those slightly chaotic moments are often the best ones.

Because weddings don't have to be perfect every second. Sometimes the wind picks up, the confetti goes everywhere and everyone ends up laughing — and those are exactly the moments you want to remember.

The best photographs are the ones you don't plan

Now, as much as I love a beautiful tablescape, gorgeous flowers and a stunning castle backdrop, you know what my favourite part of this whole day was?

The laughter.

Lauren and James were an absolute dream to photograph. They were happy, accommodating, up for anything and, most importantly, completely ready to have fun.

There were giggles, chasing each other around, spontaneous little moments and so much genuine happiness. They were so clearly in love, and it made photographing them an absolute joy.

Some of my favourite photographs from the day weren't planned at all. They happened while we were chatting, having a laugh or simply letting the two of them enjoy themselves.

And that's exactly what I love about wedding photography.

Your wedding photographs don't need to be a collection of perfectly positioned smiles and people standing in the right place. Of course, we'll make time for those beautiful portraits, but I never want you to feel as though your wedding day has turned into one long photoshoot.

I want you to enjoy it.

I want you to laugh until your cheeks hurt, hug your favourite people, sneak away for a little moment together and actually experience the day you've spent so long planning.

Because the photographs that bring you right back to your wedding day aren't always the ones where everyone is looking at the camera. Sometimes they're the ones where you're laughing at something completely ridiculous, your partner is looking at you like you're their entire world, or your family is having the time of their lives in the background.

That's the good stuff.

What would your wedding at Maxstoke Castle look like?

One thing I would love couples to take away from this shoot is that your venue doesn't have to dictate your wedding style.

Just because you're getting married in a castle doesn't mean everything has to be traditional. And just because you're having an outdoor wedding doesn't mean you have to stick to a particular colour palette or theme.

Want colourful flowers? Go for it.

Want a relaxed garden-party atmosphere with a beautiful marquee? Absolutely.

Want something elegant, something quirky, something completely unexpected or a little bit of everything? Make it yours.

Choose your florist, wedding stylist, dress, stationery and suppliers because they reflect you, not because you feel you have to follow a particular wedding trend.

Your wedding should feel like the two of you. Your personalities, your story, your favourite things and all the little details that make your relationship yours.

And if that means burnt orange napkins next to pastel blue flowers, then honestly, I'm here for it.

A little behind-the-scenes moment...

I'll let you in on a little secret.

The weather forecast for our shoot was looking rather grim. Rain, rain and more rain.

Naturally, we all kept an eye on it, hoping the weather might have a change of heart. And somehow, it did.

Instead of a washout, we were treated to the most gorgeous warm, sunny day. The kind of weather that makes you want to stay outside all afternoon.

And then, in what can only be described as impeccable timing, the moment I started packing the table back into my car, the heavens opened.

Not a little drizzle. Proper rain.

I couldn't help but laugh. We'd made it through the entire shoot, got all our photographs, enjoyed the sunshine, and the rain waited until I was packing up to make its grand entrance.

Honestly, you couldn't write it.

But that was the day in a nutshell: a lovely team, lots of laughter, beautiful surroundings and a whole lot of heart poured into making it happen.

A huge thank you to our wonderful team

This shoot was something very close to my heart. I brought the concept together, organised the suppliers, coordinated the details and styled the setup, and it was so special to see everyone come together and make it their own.

More than anything, I wanted everyone involved to have a lovely day, enjoy the creative process and have the opportunity to create beautiful work together.

And what a team it was.
